New York Charity Association (NYCA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2019, formerly known as the New York Charity Society.
NYCA is dedicated to strengthening community wellbeing through education, mindfulness, interfaith dialogue, and cultural exchange. Our work focuses on supporting individuals and communities through programs that promote emotional wellbeing, social support, and mutual understanding.
Our initiatives include meditation and mindfulness classes, mental health and wellness programs, community education activities, and cultural exchange initiatives that foster connection, empathy, and understanding across diverse communities.
We also collaborate with local organizations to support vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing economic hardship, housing insecurity, and barriers to accessing essential community resources.
NYCA is guided by the core values of inclusion, dignity, and equality. We are committed to fostering respect among individuals and communities while promoting compassionate engagement, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence.
One of NYCA’s key initiatives is the Samadhi Meditation Center, which focuses on mindfulness practice, inner development, and emotional wellbeing.
In Buddhism, the spiritual path highlights compassion and interconnectedness. The Ullambana Sutra illustrates this through Moggallana, a disciple of the Buddha, who transferred his merits to his suffering mother. This selfless act led to her rebirth in heaven, emphasizing the importance of generosity and the bond between parents and children.
The sutra records the time when Maudgalyayana achieves abhijñā and uses his newfound powers to search for his deceased parents. Maudgalyayana discovers that his deceased mother was reborn into the preta or hungry ghost realm. She was in a wasted condition and Maudgalyayana tried to help her by giving her a bowl of rice. Unfortunately as a preta, she was unable to eat the rice as it was transformed into burning coal. Maudgalyayana then asks the Buddha to help him; whereupon Buddha explains how one is able to assist one's current parents and deceased parents in this life and in one's past seven lives by willingly offering food, etc., to the sangha or monastic community during Pravarana (the end of the monsoon season or vassa), which usually occurs on the 15th day of the seventh month whereby the monastic community transfers the merits to the deceased parents, etc.

Master of Arts in Religion Education

I have practiced Koan in Chinese Chan under Zen Master Jinghui and Soto Zen under Yencan in China, both of which belong to Mahayana Zen. Additionally, when I visited the U.S., I learned Theravada Ānāpānasati and Vipassana meditation. I have combined the features of these practices and continue to apply them in my daily life.
I am also deeply interested in studying theology, particularly ancient Judaism and christy, Middle Ages theology. Early Vedas influce until early Buddhist thoughts transformation and the rise of Mahayana Buddhism.
My ultimate goal is to use my religious studies and practices to help people attain inner peace and discover their natureself with the charity platform.
